Nepal has made significant progress in poverty reduc- 3 tion from 2011 to 2020. The number of people living below the poverty line has diminished by  5% during this period. In spite of the devastating impacts of the 2015 massive earthquake, especially in rural areas of the country, there has been robust economic growth in the last three years, reaching an annual growth rate of 7.1% in  2019, almost double the average rate from previous years.

Although growth has been strong, many women and youth still face challenges in accessing decent economic opportunities, which too often results in them leaving Nepal in search of a better life, yet remaining trapped in insecure and poorly paid jobs.

Building on Nepal’s great agricultural and handicraft potential, CECI worked with local partners to improve the socio economic conditions of women and youth, especially in rural areas.

Here are stories that illustrate some of the achievements of the Uniterra Program in Nepal.
