EMERGENCY FUND - CAMPS FOR DISPLACED PEOPLES OF THE MOPTI REGION

The COVID-19 pandemic is spreading through Sub-Saharan Africa and is particularly threatening the most vulnerable populations.

For example, in Mali, thousands of villagers have fled their native region of Mopti as a result of armed conflicts. For the past three years, large groups of displaced peoples have been living in tents in makeshift camps in Bamako, without access to a toilet or running water. In these conditions of extreme proximity, it is impossible for them to respect the recommended hygiene guidelines and social distancing measures. (see the report from France 24 which describes the difficult living conditions in the camps which are further threatened by COVID-19).

An apolitical and non-partisan group of friends of Mali and Malian citizens living in Canada, came together to raise funds and support the displaced people of Mopti living in the camps. The funds raised by CECI will be used to build latrines or toilets and improve access to clean driving water thereby improving hygiene conditions.
